Frequently Asked Questions :
Will there be a lien placed on my property?
No
Can I work on the inside of my house?
No, the grant money is to be used for beautification work to include repairs, which improve the exterior appearance of the property.
Can I choose any contractor to do the work for me?
Neighborhood Housing Services of the Inland Empire, Inc. will provide you with the opportunity to interview three contractors and review three proposals from a pre-determined list of approved contractors. As a result, you will make the final determination of which contractor you will enter into a contract with to complete the beautification work on your house.
My roof is leaking; can you come and fix it right now?
This program is not set up for a quick fix. It is a preventative, beautification program and not a program to fix leaking roofs. The homeowner is responsible to fix and repair such items, although it can be part of the grant repairs.
Do I have to live in the City of San Bernardino or the City of Banning?
Yes, the grant recipient must reside, and the property must be located within the City limits of San Bernardino or Banning.
Do I have to pay back the money?
In order to receive the Grant, recipients must agree to abide by certain guidelines, which include residing in the property for at least one year following completion of the work, completing a Preventative Maintenance Class, and signing a City of San Bernardino or City of Banning Maintenance Covenant. Should these requirements be broken, the grant recipient will be required to pay back the entire amount of the grant.
